YBB Monthly Favorites

YBB Favorites For March 2019

By  |

Hey, beauties we’re super stoked to be sharing our first of hopefully many YBB Faves with you.

Each month we’ll be sharing our favorite products that we’ve tried and let you know if we think each product works on different skin types, as well as if each meets the needs of the under 30 and over 30 crowds (as applicable).

We know your time is important so let’s get to it.

We’re starting off our first YBB monthly favorites with some of the skincare and mascara products we have been loving this March.

Ok, so we all have totally different skin types, and our needs are different at different ages, and that makes it hard to find a product that can work on everyone. The great news is some beauty brands just get that and can hit a home run with a lineup of moisturizers for those that are under 30 as well as over 30. Two of our favorite daily moisturizers belong to Origin and here’s why.

Moira’s Picks

Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer

Origins Ginseng Moisturizer | Your Brand Of Beauty

Retail Pricing: $30 (US) or $41 (CDN)

Where to buy:

  • Sephora
  • Ulta

This is one of my absolute go-to favorite daily moisturizers! If you’re someone who struggles with dry skin you’re going to absolutely love this jar of heavenly smelling skin-quenching miracle cream. I’ve tried more skin creams than a person should need to try. I struggled to find one that my skin didn’t rapidly drink like a tall glass of water on a scorching day in the sun and found Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer to be one of my best finds. The texture is light yet creamy, and I didn’t need a tonne of it to cover my skin. After putting it on, my skin immediately felt softer and slightly dewy. It stayed a bit dewy for most of the day, and I was pleased with the slight tangerine scent it gave off. This is a fantastic daily hydrating moisturizer for some over 30 or if you have dry facial skin. Here’s our YBB Rating (based on a trial over a 1 week period).

Texture: Ultra light yet surprisingly rich too

Scent: Slight tangerine (almost smells like a real tangerine…mmmmmm)

Hydration: Hydrating with a slightly dewy feel

Long lasting: Skin stayed hydrated for the day

Worked as expected: Yes

Pros: Lightweight, nice soft fragrance, long-lasting hydration

Cons: Could be a larger quantity for the price to appeal to smaller budgets.

Tohi’s Deep Radiance Facial Cleanser (by Rocky Mountain Oils)

Tohi Deep Radiance Facial Cleanser | Your Brand Of Beauty
Retail Pricing: $25 (US)

Where to buy:

Tohi is a new product by Rocky Mountain Oils. I’ll be the first to admit, I was surprised to find this gem of a cleanser from an essential oils company, but it was indeed a very pleasant surprise. Tohi Deep Radiance Facial Cleanser made my very dry facial skin feel clean and soft after just one use. It had a super mild orange scent similar to Origin’s moisturizer, which was nice. The cleanser is intended for application on dry skin, but it can also be applied on wet skin.

Here’s Moira’s YBB Rating for use on dry to very dry skin (based on a trial over a 1 week period).

Texture: Light and without any gritty feel

Scent: Very slight orange (almost undetectable)

Cleansing: Very little product is needed for a good cleansing

After drying: Even very dry skin feels clean and soft

Worked as expected: Yes

Pros: Scent is light and pleasant, dry skin felt soft and clean after one use. The bottle is slender and nice to hold and has a pretty simple design.

Cons: Need a few pumps to get the product out as the opening is small, but not really a big issue.

Here’s Natassia’s YBB Rating for use on combination to oily skin (based on a trial over a 1 week period).

Texture: Smooth and light

Scent: Light orange scent

Cleansing: A little goes a long way (pea sized amount)

After drying: Skin feels soft and hydrated due to the natural oils in the cleanser

Worked as expected: Yes

Pros: Cleanser has a pleasant orange scent, and the texture was very smooth. The cleanser is meant for application on dry skin, but it can also be applied on wet skin. Didn’t make my skin feel dry or look oily after use.

Cons: None

Tohi Sacred Skin Facial Moisturizer (by Rocky Mountain Oils)

Tohi Moisturizer | Your Brand Of Beauty
Retail Pricing: $50 (US)

Where to buy:

Another new product by Rocky Mountain Oils, Tohi’s Sacred Skin Facial Moisturizer gave my skin an amazing soft-to-the-touch feel without any greasiness or tacky feel. What was uber enjoyable was that this silky soft feel lasted the entire day. Normally I’d have to re-apply a moisturizer at least one time throughout the day, but not with this one. I keep feeling my face to see if it was dry again, but nope it felt the same as when I applied it. The only downside is it had a slight scent when I applied it to my face that I wish was the orange scent that the cleanser had. The good news it the scent was light and very short lived. It dissipated very quickly, just leaving behind my soft skin. Awesome!! Both Tohi’s facial cleanser and Tohi’s moisturizer are great for those of you who want a natural product that meets these hurdles. It contains No:

  • Phthalates
  • Parabens
  • Artificial Fragrances
  • Formaldehyde
  • Sulfates
  • BHA or BHT
  • DEA, MEA, or TEA
  • GMOs
  • Cruelty-Free
  • Vegan
  • All Natural Botanicals

Here’s Moira’s YBB Rating for use on dry to very dry skin (based on a trial over a 1 week period).

Texture: Lightweight, not greasy

Scent: slightly like eucalyptus (but only for a few seconds)

Hydration: left skin feeling very hydrated yet not sticky or dewy

Long lasting: Skin was soft all day, no need to reapply moisturizer

Worked as expected: Better than expected

Pros: Lightweight, long-lasting hydration, not sticky

Cons: The scent could be improved, but not if it were to change the product quality.

Here’s Natassia’s YBB Rating for use on combination to oily skin (based on a trial over a 1 week period).

Texture: Creamy and not greasy

Scent: Smells like frankincense (like stepping into an aromatherapy store)

Hydration: left skin feeling very hydrated yet not sticky or dewy

Long lasting: Skin was soft all day and the next day

Worked as expected: Better than expected

Pros: Moisturizer left skin feeling very hydrated, not greasy and the smell goes away fairly quickly. No issues with oily skin even the next day. Great for people with combination to oily skin.

Cons: The scent could be improved, but not if it were to change the product quality.

Origins Zero Oil – Oil-Free Moisturizing Lotion

Origins Oil Free Moisturizer | Skin care | Your Brand Of Beauty

Retail Pricing: $30 (US) or $38 (CDN)

Where to buy:

If you struggle with oily or combination skin and you’re looking for a moisturizer that will not only prevent a shiny face but also moisturize your face, this is the product for you. A key factor in picking a moisturizer for oily skin is a water-based or oil-free moisturizers. Origins Zero Oil lotion is a lightweight, oil-free lotion that actually controls the oils on your face all day and hydrates your skin. I have tried many face creams in hopes that I would finally find one that actually prevents my face from becoming shiny. I love this lotion, it works amazingly especially on the days where I am out all day, and I want my foundation powder to stay matte. The texture of the lotion is light but not watery, allowing for proper hydration with a matte finish. Origins Zero Oil lotion has an amazing scent, it smells like a sweet mint scent. One thing that matters a lot to me in a moisturizer is the scent because it is on your face all day. If a lotion smells bad but works great, I am less likely to wear it because it sticks in your nose all day. I also, like that this product comes in a tube rather than a pot; which prevents you from putting germs or oils in the lotion from your fingers. This lotion worked better than I expected and I will definitely buy it again. My only complaint is that it only comes in a 50ml tube, wish they had a bigger size.

Texture: Lightweight, creamy, yet still hydrating

Scent: Soft sweet mint scent

Hydration: Hydrating with a matte finish

Long lasting: Controlled oils for the whole day

Worked as expected: Better than expected

Pros: Lightweight, nice fragrance, long-lasting hydration, really controls oils

Cons: Could be a larger quantity for the price to appeal to smaller budgets.

Benefit – BAD Gal BANG! Volumizing Mascara

Benefit Bad Gal BANG! Mascara | Your Brand Of Beauty | makeup

Retail Pricing: $25 (US) or $33 (CDN)

Where to buy:

If you’re looking for a mascara that can amplify the volume and length of your lashes, then Benefits BADgal BANG! Mascara is a great option. I will admit that prior to trying this mascara my go-to daily mascara was L’Oreal’s Telescopic mascara. In my opinion the BANG! Volumizing mascara definitely does a better job of making my lashes look thicker and longer. It comes with rubber bristles that are shorter at the tip to provide better definition and allows you to coat the lashes closer to the tear duct. I wore this mascara from 7:30 am till 9:30 pm and it looked exactly the same as it did when I applied it. I don’t wear makeup to bed so I can’t validate if it lasts for 36 hours, but it does wear well all day with no flaking. The formula s great, it is thick enough to make your lashes stand out but not look clumpy. The only complaint I have is that it is a bit pricey if you wear mascara every day and you’re on a budget.

Results: Volumizing, lengthening, and No flaking

Long lasting: Lasts all day

Formula: Medium thickness, not clumpy

Worked as expected: Yes

Pros: Long lasting, volumizing, lengthening, and No flaking

Cons: A bit pricey if you’re on a budget.
