When it comes to treating aging skin, beauty is undeniably more than skin deep. At Vitalité Optimum Health & Beauty Med Spa in Fredericksburg, Texas, bio-identical hormone replacement is used for its ability to slow the aging process, not only improving crepey skin, but also improvement in muscle tone and strength, hair and nail growth and luster, and overall energy and mental well-being.

Robin Fleck, MD, founder and medical director at Vitalité Med Spa notes, “I have seen firsthand the effects of bio-identical hormone replacement: the remarkable improvement in skin tone and texture, disappearance of aching joints, elevation in mood and memory, gain in muscle tone and strength, all of which enhance the patient’s ability to engage in daily activities and exercise, which promote further rejuvenation.”

Levels of estradiol, testosterone, thyroid hormone, DHEA, progesterone, melatonin, and Vitamin D and K decline with age, with suboptimal levels for health seen by about age 50. Deficiencies of these hormones can lead to cardiovascular disease and stroke, increased blood lipids, increased production and storage of visceral fat, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, age-related depression and cognitive decline, not to mention wrinkles, age spots and the cosmetic deficiencies we call aging.

A prospective patient is seen by Dr. Fleck, who records baseline hormone levels, as well as their history and physical examination so that accurate, individualized hormone replacement can be prescribed. The patients are monitored with hormone levels each month until they’ve achieved optimal levels for each hormone. Dr. Fleck prescribes estradiol, testosterone for men and women, thyroid hormone, DHEA, progesterone, melatonin, and Vitamin D and K. Patients remain on their optimal level of these hormones and are monitored annually with physical examinations and hormone levels, with adjustments made if necessary.

Along with hormone replacement, Dr. Fleck also stresses optimal nutritional intake, which includes limiting carbohydrates, and consumption of high-quality protein and fats, always with an eye toward choosing organic, GMO-free food. She recommends at least 8 hours of sleep each night and obviously, avoidance of alcohol and tobacco to gain the most benefit from this regimen.

At Vitalité Med Spa, patients are also evaluated for individual imperfections in their appearance such as lax eyelid skin, age spots, wrinkles, hereditary hair loss, scars, or bony appearance of the hands. They are offered Active FX CO2 laserBotoxRadiesse filler or PRP treatments to correct these deficiencies. These cosmetic interventions tend to last longer when the patient is hormone-replete.

Cosmetic dermatologist, Robin Fleck, M.D. is a double-board certified dermatologist and internist, recognized by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is the founder and Medical Director of Vitalité Optimum Health and Beauty Med Spa in Fredericksburg, Texas and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
